Blue Flags 2011

Three blue flags guarantee the quality of the beaches of Xàbia

Press Release - 21st June 2011

Blue flags are flying from today on the Arenal, La Grava and La Granadella beaches of Xàbia. This morning, Mayor José Chulvi, and Councillors Antonio Miragall, Doris Courcelles and Oscar Anton made a symbolic flag raising on the Arenal. This most popular swimming area in the municipality already has a large number of occupants for the month of June. Furthermore all beach safety measures are in place.

The Mayor stressed the importance for a tourist resort to maintain the blue flags awarded by the Association of Environmental Education and the Consumer (ADEAC) because they are a guarantee of the quality excellence of its waters, accessibility services, and safety and cleanliness in the entire beach area. In addition, the Blue Flag as an award, has significant impact on the tourism sector.

Chulvi is committed to continue along these lines to maintain this distinction, to offer tourists "good services and help them fully enjoy the beaches" of the municipality. In this respect he mentioned the work of the Red Cross providing beach surveillance; and the maintenance of the infrastructure, and the bathing point on the Arenal adapted for the needs of the hundreds of disabled people who enjoy the beach every summer.

The Blue flags were raised today, but were collected on Saturday in an official ceremony for all the Valencian municipalities with qualifying beaches. This took place in the Hotel Bayren in Gandia and was presided over by Francisco Camps and councillors such as Vicente Rambla and Belén Juste.  Representing the town of Xàbia were the councillors Antonio Miragall - Tourism, and Doris Courcelles- Beaches.
