Javea. Tuesday, 14 February 2012.
The Llebeig Xàbia Running Club presented the third edition of its mountain crossing in Javea, which will be held on Sunday, 26 February in the morning. According to the President of the sports club, Juanjo Vallés, the race will go through one of the most spectacular areas of the town: the forest of the Granadella, and may be done by running or walking.
The race for runners will have a distance of 16 kilometres and will start at 10am from Pinosol Park. Trophies will be given to the top three in winners in the Youth, Senior, Veterans A and Veterans B categories, with one each for men and women. There will also be a prize for the local podium and the largest team, as well as commemorative t-shirt for all the participants. The second block of racers who wish to take part walking will start about 10 minutes later than the runners and they will cover a distance of 13 kilometres non-competitively.
Registration, for people 16 or over, will be open until the 24th and can be done at www.conxip.es or in the La Rulla Sports store. The price is 12 Euros and includes civil liability insurance, provisions, a runner's bag with a t-shirt and lunch at the end of the race.
The President of Club Llebeig has expressed that they expect the participants to enjoy the crossing through the Granadella, an area unknown to many and in his view, "is a wonder waiting to be discovered". The Councillor for Sports, Juan Luis Cardona, has echoed this opinion, adding that the route is "impressive" and encouraged everyone to take up a sport. He also took the opportunity to praise the organisational skills of the Club Llebeig, which each year improves and grows in numbers (with almost 200 members) and activities.
In this regard, the club has announced the competitions that are planned for the month of March, such as the School Games or the Women's Day Non-Competive Race (Cursa del Día de la Dona). This tight calendar of events has been organized with the support of the Sports Department and the collaboration of the Local Police, Civil Protection and the Red Cross.
Volta a Peu
Also, as mentioned by Juan Zaragozí, registration opens this week to compete in the Volta a Peu, the flagship race of the Club Llebeig, with almost 1,500 participants. This year it will be inaugurate the regional Circuit a Peu de la Marina Alta running circuit, which includes races in Gata, Verger, Pego, Ondara, Pedreguer, Jesús Pobre and Benissa.
The Volta a Xàbia running competition will be held on Sunday, 10 March and will cover a 10 km distance along the sea front, starting from the Sports Pavilion and passing through the First and Second Montañar. The Club Llebeig has clarified that anyone can participate in this race even if not registered in the regional circuit. For more information about this race, visit: www.somesport.com.
