NOTA DE PRENSA
The “quintos” in Javea to sell the official Fogueres de Sant Joan publication door-to-door
The 10-day programme of events includes a concert by Melendi and the iconic Nit dels Focs
Javea, Wednesday 16 April 2012.
The Fogueres Commission and the Fiestas Department have presented the official commemorative book of the "Fogueres de Sant Joan 2012". The publication of almost 200 pages includes the programme of events, as well as photographs of all those involved in the celebrations, and several contributions on local history and peculiarities of the fiesta. There is also a special feature celebrating the 25th anniversary of Quintà 1987 "La Moguda".
Making the presentation with mayor José Chulvi was Juan Ortolá, councillor for Fiestas, and Elena López, president of the Fogueres Commission. They were accompanied by fiesta queens Ángela Cholbi and María Buigues and their ladies-in-waiting, as well as María Ángeles Caballero and José David Bou, the presidents of Quintà 2012 "La Fotrakà" and those of the Junior Comission, Carmen Cholbi and Rubén Bisquert.
Commission President Elena López said that the organisers are making great efforts to distribute the book as soon as possible and after several years since the habit was lost, the current Quintà will be selling the book door-to-door to help fund the fiesta. The publication, with the cover designed by "Duques y Semanal Jávea" will be available from Monday 21st May from town newspaper shops and stationers as well as from the tourist offices at a price of 20 euros.
Both López and councillor Juan Ortolá have highlighted the superb work of this year’s Quintà who, along with the Commission, have been working hard for months organising events such as discos and a bingo to raise funds to ensure that the Fogueres Sant Joan celebrations can take place, despite cuts to the municipal fiesta budget provoked by the crisis. Mayor José Chulvi also congratulated the youngsters and encouraged them to enjoy every moment of their special year. In addition, he invited everyone to take part in these celebrations that combine culture and tradition as well as great entertainment.
Councillor Juan Ortolá confirmed that the celebrations will begin on Saturday 9th June with the "Proclamación de les Reinas" in which the fiesta queens and their courts of honour will be presented to the town. On Thursday 14th June will be the "pregón", the formal announcement of the start of ten days of festivities which include bull-running, the Día de les Quintades (Saturday 16th June), live music such as rock band La Fuga (Wednesday 20th June) and Melendi (Friday 22nd June), a Seventies Night with a live performance from Rain (Thursday 21st June) followed by an open-air disco with the likes of Palazón, Paquitus, Emilio Ferrer, Tomás de la Nucia, el Bup and Bartolomé Cabo, and numerous cultural activities which include live music, “sainetes” and theatre.
Of course, the Commission has ensured that the most iconic acts of the fiesta are continued with the traditional flower offering, parades, floats and the traditional "Nit dels Focs" which earlier this year was declared a "Fiesta de Interés Turístico" by the Valencian government. This, along with the fact that it falls on a Saturday this year, is bound to see a marked increase in participants wishing to experience a night of fire-jumping and the spectacular "correfocs". The fiesta will close with the musical fireworks displayed followed by the burning of the "Foguera", whose theme this year is "Quines monaes".
The Town Hall took the opportunity to remind the fiesta peñas that they must be officially registered in compliance with the official regulations that define their conduct throughout the celebrations. A new ruling for the 2012 celebrations is the banning of umbrellas and parasols in crowded events such as the music concerts and the ´correfocs' to avoid injury.
