The Israelí Artist Amos Hoffman Chooses el Xàbia Jazz to Premiere His New Work in Europe
Javea. 29 July 2011. The Town Hall sponsored international jazz festival celebrated every summer in Javea will be the setting for the European debut of the project entitled "Carving" by Israeli musician Amos Hoffman. In this concert the lute and guitar player, born in Tel Aviv and regular collaborator of renowned bassist Avishai Cohen, will demonstrate concert in his unique style that combines music with Middle Eastern roots with jazz rhythms . The concert, co-sponsored by the Casa del Mediterráneo consortium and scheduled for Saturday night August 6th, aims to the promote one of the most cutting edge musicians on the banks of the Mediterranean, in this case Israel, here in Spain..
Xàbia Jazz, one of the most important and well-established events of its kind in the Alicante province, rises its curtain on Thursday August 4 with the quartet led by Javier Colina (bass) and Antonio Serrano (harmonica), who specialize in combining flamenco rhythms and Cuban son with jazz. On Friday August 5 the stage will fill up with the spectacular 18-member Big Band led by veteran saxophonist Bob Sands Yorker. The big band is comprised of the best musicians from Madrid collaborating with musicians the likes of Bobby Martinez, Chris Kase, Norman Hogue, Ruben Sandoval and Israel Andreu, among others, guaranteeing thrilling solos and sections. Closing the festival on Sunday 7 August is the American female vocalist and composer Deborah J. Carter, considered to be one of the most exciting jazz vocalists on the current European scene.
The Xàbia Jazz International Festival, currently in its eleventh edition, has become fully consolidated within the national scene thanks to its commitment to maintaining leading-edge quality. Last year’s edition closed with a total of more than 4,000 spectators and has become a must for many residents, vacationers and familiar faces. The outdoor concerts will be held in the Plaza de la Constitution (Thursday market), from Thursday, August 4th to Sunday, August 7th, at 10.30 pm.
In addition, this year's festival has opened to the participation of associations such as the Generador Cultural, which has organized several thematic exhibitions on jazz throughout the summer.
