Late Night Shopping in the Old Town

PRESS RELEASE

Xàbia Histórica programmes a shopping class and a night of shopping

The event will be complemented with traditional music and tapas in the bars and taverns of the Old Town

Javea. Tuesday, 26th June 2012.

The Xàbia Històrica business association has presented a new activity that will début on Thursday 5 July. It is a “night of shopping” which will start off with a “shopping class” given by the Andalusian designer Maria Porres, which will give way to a night of shopping, with the doors of the majority of the Old Town shops open until after midnight. Bars, restaurants and taverns will also participate in this novel initiative with a special offer of wine or beer plus a tapa at the price of two Euros. The entire event will be animated by the traditional music of the Romàntica del Saladar and la colla Xirimitab’s

According to the president of the association, Sisco Vallés, the aim of this promotional activity, scheduled for the first week of July, is to encourage locals, tourists and passersby to experience the wide range of the finest commercial and culinary treasures that the Old Town has to offer. The event is also a test run for the shops - who for the first time ever will remain open until half past twelve - to see how these new opening hours are received by tourists, most of whom spend the day at the beach and head up to the Old Town in the late evening.

In this first “night of shopping”, 29 shops, 19 dining establishments and three cocktail bars will be participating. Nevertheless, Valles has extended the invitation to take part in this event to all the shops and businesses in Javea, even if they are not members of the association, so as to guarantee the widest success possible of this experiment.
For his part, Councillor for Economic Development, Juan Luis Cardona, has shown his support for the endeavours of the Xàbia Históric Association, who are continually innovating with events and initiatives aimed at converting the commercial zone into an “outdoor shopping centre”. Precisely, one of their most successful recent initiatives has been “local viu, local atractiu”, in which the shop windows of empty shop premises in the Old Town were decorated by local designers in the hopes of making them more attractive to people interested in opening new businesses. In their campaign to support and mediate in the opening of new shops, the association has announced that two artisans will be opening two clothing and accessory shops in the Old Town during the summer months. They would also like to remind everyone that there are still commercial premises available for lease.
