Let's Talk Javea U3A group became far more involved with turning from chat to action since their last official session pre summer season break on June 17th.
At that session, the formation of a new Association was announced "Para Una Xabia Sostenbile". Over the previous few days, Association 'Foundation Dcocuments' had been signed, these being accepted in principle by the Hacienda office in Denia, a provisional Association CIF number issued and a Bank Account opened at Barclays.
It had been hoped that the supply of new Xabia Ecologica jute bags would arrive in time for the U3A 'open day at the Parador on Wednesday 24th. In the end, a U3A trio not only talked about our group, but managed at the same time to sell at cost price 30 jute wine carrier bags.
The shopping bags (made in India) on order from the UK arrived just a few days later. Leaflets promoting their use by the new Association are now being distributed 'around the houses', while the Press launch took place on July 7th, featuring not only the bags, but also local councillors, representatives of Javea's three Business Associations and a few faces from LTJ.
U3A members ( and any others) who are willing to assist this initiative should apply for a distribution package comprising 10 each of the three bags, to pass on to friends and visitors.
On a somewhat less savoury topic, news of the scheme for a municipal mains sewerage network for Javea has reached a far wider audience than those Agenda 21 participants that had attended the Acciona presentation in early April. LTJ participants had been active in trying to obtain more information and local justification for this costly scheme, leading to a whole series of briefing meetings involving Javea's Alcalde and other councillors.
Although this scheme is now being referred to only as a 'conceptual idea', some may wish to keep well informed in case there is any whiff of a change in wind direction. To that end, more information can be had by contacting Sewage project at
