Javea Town Council has approved an amendment to the "Solid waste collection, cleaning of public spaces and beaches," contract which it has with the company, "Cespa". The change to optimize the service will not entail more expense to the municipality.
Revision of the contract has been forced by the creation of new public areas, the implementation of a municipal eco-park, the existence of three new recycling points and a new road cleaning machine for the Old Town. To date these have been billed as "extraordinary services" and have cost the public purse € 139,135.27. To integrate these services within the municipal contract "without it being more expensive and to continue meeting the growing needs of the department," they have had to make cuts in other sections and optimize resources.
Specifically they have retired a back loading vehicle that makes collections in some areas, and instead will build a recycling point (included in the municipal budget in 2012) - to serve these urban areas.
It was also decided to modify the opening times of the municipal eco-park located on the Cami de les Sorts as part of the cost-saving policy. Previously the schedule was from 8.00 am to 8.00pm Monday to Saturday. Now, having studied patterns of use it will be open from 9am to 13:30pm and from 4.00pm til 6.00pm (extended to 8.00pm in the summer)
The department is now turning its attention to the management of garbage after collection , particularly pertaining to commercial and industrial waste.
