Javea, Wednesday 7 December 2011.

The Xàbia Histórica Business Association in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development has prepared numerous activities to animate the Old Town during this holiday season with amenities such as a playroom for children over 6 in the casal del Fogueres (carrer in Forn) that allow parents to write letters to the Three Kings in a quieter atmosphere. This game room will be open on Saturday 17th December, and Friday 23rd and 30th December from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. This is supplemented with numerous activities designed for children, including story reading at the library in Carrer Major on Friday 16th December at 6.00pm as well as a free screening of the Disney animated film "Merlín el Encantador" on Friday 30th December at 11.00am at the Casa de Cultura, the children’s play "Guyi-Guyi" on Tuesday 3rd January at 5.00pm, or the Disney family film entitled "Mi Amigo el Fantasma" on Thursday 5th January at 11.30am, also in the Casa de Cultura.
The aim is to offer an alternative to the out-of-town shopping centres, with a huge programme of activities for the festive period. These include a special raffle in which shoppers will receive an entry for a purchase in selected outlets with the chance to win 2,000 euros, as well as a special musical tapas route.

This Christmas Tapas Tour will take place on Friday 30th December at 8pm and for 2 euros one can enjoy a glass of wine or beer with a tapas dish from venues such as Bar José, Casa Grau, Bar Montgó, Embuix, La Trastienda, Palau, La Musa, Tasca Cambalache, Bar Mercat and Panadería Pilar, all accompanied by music.

The programme also includes fun and sports such as the popular Christmas Christmas Fun Run in which runners will have to participate in fancy dress. The race will be held on Saturday December 17th from 11am and departing from the Placeta del Convent.

International Christmas Market and tapas route
At the same time and in the same place, a special international Christmas market will be filling the Placeta del Convent, with a display of Christmas customs and traditions typical of the many international residents who have chosen to live in Jávea. The Placeta del Convent will be central to many activities over the festive period, including the visit of Santa Claus to collect letters from the children on the same day as the Christmas market. There, the children will be able to drop off their letters and sing along to Christmas carols. These will be performed on Friday 23rd December by the Pensioner's Association "Amanecer de Xàbia", who will be singing Christmas carols throughout the Old Town from 11.30am, visiting the Placeta del Convent, the Plaza de Correos, the Plaça de Baix and the indoor market. On the same day, at 7.30pm, the streets of the Old Town will be filled once again with the sound of Christmas carols on the dulçaina and tabalet from the Colla Xirimitab's.

Music will be strongly featured thoughout the entire festive period with a chamber music concert performed by the students of the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Xàbia, who will be playing at the Conservatory at 7pm on Thursday 15th December. Then the conservatory's wind section will be performing at the Iglesia de San Bartolomé on Friday 16th December at 8pm.

On Saturday 17th December, the Orfeón de Xàbia will be performing at Christmas concert at the Iglesia de San Bartolomé at 9pm whilst the choir and wind section of the Conservatorio will be performing at the church on Monday 19th December at 8pm.
