Jávea Forecasts Good Tourist Occupation for this Summer
The municipality predicts an improvement over the figures registered in the last two years.
Xàbia. 21.07.2011. Councillor for Tourism Antonio Miragall has revealed that, according to data provided by hotels, campsites and holiday apartments, the tourism forecast for this summer is "very favourable" and estimates that an average occupancy of 85% for July is 10 points higher than the same month in 2010. For the month of August, the busiest tourist month, confirmed reservations so far account for 73% occupancy but it is estimated that the average occupancy will reach 90-95% due to last minute bookings.
The town hall admitted that predictions are always difficult to estimate and that until the high season ends, one cannot offer precise details. However the bookings so far reflected an increase in tourism in Jávea in recent months and that a positive message was being transmitted from the tourist industry which predicts good tourist occupation for the season..
Councillor Miragall warned that there must be some caution as the country was still in the depths of a financial crisis but he confirmed that the figures suggested that tourism for 2011 would impact positively on the local economy and on temporary employment in the municipality.
Miragall also wanted to express his satisfaction for the work done by various departments and associations who have worked towards a common goal of providing a wide range of cultural and leisure that would complement the sun and sand. Dramatised tours around the old town in several languages, the Moors and Christians festival, the Summer Music Festival, the Xàbia Jazz Festival and the Xàbia Classical Music Festival are some events that one can enjoy this summer in Jávea.
The councillor also confirmed plans to convene the Muncipal Council of Tourism in the near future, a body that would be responsible for defining the guidelines to follow with regards to tourism in the town. The council was currently working to modify part of the composition, organisation and operations of the statutes with the intention of converting it into a more dynamic entity within which all sectors of the tourist industry would for part.
