On Good Friday, 10th April 2009, forty five European residents of Xàbia took advantage of an invitation from the Diputación de Alicante to travel by coach to Crevillent to view the Easter procession and learn more about regional culture. The free trip from Xàbia was organised through councillor Doris Courcelles, the coach leaving early in the morning. In Crevillent, the group from Xàbia met with two other coachloads of European residents, one from Busot, the other Alfaz del Pi. A multilingual guide, David, led everyone on a short walk through town to the Calvari plaza where the procession floats were on display. There, everyone was treated to a breakfast of local specialities including la Coca de Crevillent and young habas beans. Afterwards the group of some 150 people were given souvenir brochures and shown their seats in the Plaza Chapi from where they viewed the procession of 16 floats. Although bad weather had been expected, the weather fortunately stayed fine all day. After enjoying the procession, the visitors had an excellent tapas and paella lunch at Restaurante Las Palmeras and gave a heartfelt toast of thanks to the Diputación de Alicante for an excellent day out.
