Xàbia Jazz “for sale” at the Indoor Municipal Market

This year the Jazz Festival is present in every corner of Jávea. One example of this is the indoor Municipal Market, where a special stand has been opened offering music from the various groups who have played at the festival over the last ten years, information about the concerts which begin on Thursday August 4th, as well as event merchandise such as T-shirts, fridge magnets, badges, stickers and bag hangers, are available. In addition, the market is filled with jazz background music and decorations such as musical notes and a piano keyboard on the counter of the Festival information point. The office is manned by two volunteers, both experts in jazz, during the morning and the afternoon opening hours of the market. In the evening, they will be found next to the festival venue in the Plaza de la Consitución. Tickets for the concerts can be purchased either at the box office, the Municipal Tourism Office or the Servicam. The price of each concert is 15 euros and a four-night ticket is available for 40 euros. Senior citizens and people under the age of 26 can purchase discounted tickets of 12 euros per concert or 30 euros for the entire festival.
Furthermore, yesterdays saw the inauguration of yet a third complementary exhibit with which associations such as El Generador Cultural are giving more projection to this event. The exhibition of the festival posters of the last ten years is open at the Soler Blasco Museum until August 4th. And beginning Thursday, the "XabiaJazz DixieLand Band", a small travelling ensemble, will march through the different areas of the town, creating a festive atmosphere and encouraging everyone to come along the Xabia Jazz festival.
The festival begins tomorrow (Thursday 4th August). Each performance begins at 10:30pm in the Plaza de la Constitución. The festival opens with a quartet led by Javier Colina (double-bass) and Antonio Serrano (harmonica), specialists in combining flamenco rhythms and Cuban son with jazz. On Friday 5th August, the stage will be filled by a spectacular 18-member big band led by veteran New York saxophonist Bob Sands.
The big band is comprised of the best musicians from Madrid collaborating with musicians the likes of Bobby Martinez, Chris Kase, Norman Hogue, Ruben Sandoval and Israel Andreu, among others, guaranteeing thrilling solos and sections. Closing the festival on Sunday 7th August is the American female vocalist and composer Deborah J. Carter, considered to be one of the most exciting jazz vocalists on the current European scene.
